Volkswagen Jetta and Golf earn IIHS Top Safety Pick

Volkswagen IIHS Top Safety Pick Drivers know that Volkswagen puts the safety of its drivers first. That’s why it’s no surprise to see that multiple Volkswagen models have received recognition for their excellent safety features. Adding on to its ever-growing list of vehicles certified as Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Volkswagen 2016 Golf and Jetta families have received the highest safety rating. While being named a Top Safety Pick is becoming more and more common, it is still a great challenge for automakers due to the strict nature of the IIHS’s testing system. To achieve this rating, vehicles need to get “Good” ratings, which stand for the highest grade possible, in categories including the moderate overlap, front, side, roof and head restrain tests. Vehicles also need to get at least an “Acceptable” rating on the small-overlap test, which is considered an extremely difficult test. Finally, the vehicle’s automatic crash-prevention system needs to be rated as either “Advanced” or “Superior” by tests. Golf and Jetta safety systems The 2016 Jetta and Golf family performed well on the IIHS tests, achieving “Good” ratings across the board and an “Advanced” crash prevention rating. Much of its success is thanks to the new for 2016 Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking system. Other new additions to the Volkswagen models include Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Departure Warning. Take a look at the 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI and its crash safety system in action in its IIHS safety test for crash testing in the video below: If you’re interested in getting behind the wheel of one of these great vehicles, take a look at our available inventory. The New Car Parade Continues: The 2015 VW Jetta

2015 VW Jetta Providence RI It’s becoming a bit of a trend around here at Speedcraft VW: for the third time this month, we’re rolling out the red carpet to announce the arrival of a new vehicle for the 2015 model year. Hot on the heels of the debut of the Tiguan and Passat, we are now excited to welcome the 2015 VW Jetta, our flagship compact family sedan. The fully redesigned vehicle features a host of stylistic alterations and new technology features, so let’s take a quick tour of the most famous member of Volkswagen’s Mt. Rushmore, shall we? New Powertrains The Jetta has always been a fan favorite for its dynamic performance and excellent fuel efficiency, but the latest edition sweetens the deal even further than it has in past years. While a 2.0L four-cylinder engine delivering 34 highway mpg comes standard, two excellent optional powertrains are available in the upper-level trims: a turbocharged 1.8L four-cylinder generating 170 hp and 37 highway mpg is found in the SE and SEL trims, while a 2.0L TDI diesel offers abundant low-end torque and a truly absurd 46 highway mpg. The functional and welcoming interior cabin on the Jetta rises to all occasions. Refreshed Styling For a model long recognized for its value and dependability, the Jetta certainly cleans up nice. For the 2015 model, the Jetta adds three inches to its wheelbase and has new structural changes, the result of which is a vehicle that is both visually satisfying and mechanically sound. And, with its confident posture and economical use of interior space, the Jetta manages to be larger than it at first appears. Safety First If you know anything about the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick+ designation, you might know that they don’t give those to just anyone. And, with the Jetta’s standard features such as traction and stability control, antilock disc brakes and full suite of airbags, it not only receives top recognition from the IIHS, it also gets a 5-star Overall Crast Test Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as well. A rearview camera and crash mitigation technology help to ensure that, once inside the 2015 VW Jetta, you feel safe and secure. Tale of the Tape: The 2014 VW Jetta vs. the 2014 Toyota Corolla

2014 VW Jetta vs. 2014 Toyota Corolla Providence RI Even though it seems like forever ago, it’s only been about a decade since the compact sedan segment experienced what sportscasters generally refer to as “The Leap.” Prior to the early 2000s, compact cars were, by and large, designed to be practical and that was about it. Cheap interior materials and uninspiring driving dynamics were the norm, and for the bulk of the target audience--students, young families, etc.--that was mostly okay. Then rising gas prices became nightly-news fodder, and the focus of compact cars shifted greatly. Drivers now wanted cars that had fuel efficiency that wouldn’t gouge them at the pump, but wanted the quality and amenities that could be found in larger, more expensive vehicles. The compact car segment grew up in a hurry, and two models quickly rose to the top. Now, for the new model year, let’s see how far they’ve come: the 2014 VW Jetta and the 2014 Toyota Corolla. The upscale interior of the 2014 VW Jetta makes practical use of all available space. When comparing the latest models of the VW Jetta and the Toyota Corolla, it’s immediately obvious that this is a test of two supremely well-designed automobiles. Both feature accommodating interior cabins, and are comfortable for up to five adult occupants. They also each feature efficient and compelling standard engines that fare reasonably well in most driving conditions. In a few key areas, however, the Volkswagen Jetta unquestionably wrestles the reins from the Corolla. The interior of the Jetta, in particular, is head-and-shoulders above the Corolla in terms of sensibility; it carries a distinctly European craftsmanship that is both visually pleasing and space-efficient, making the most of every inch. In fact, most agree that the interior and trunk space tread closely to mid-size vehicle levels. Meanwhile, with standard convenience features such as heated outside mirrors and one-touch express up/down on all windows, the Jetta leaves a strong impression of sophistication at all trim levels. The available Turbo-diesel engine offers drivers up to 42 highway mpg. Under the hood, the VW Jetta sets itself apart as well. While the Corolla features just the single engine option--a 1.8L four-cylinder--the Jetta answers with a wide variety of inspired powertrains, including a new 1.8L Turbocharged four-cylinder and a 2.0L Turbo-diesel four-cylinder that produces an estimated 42 highway mpg. With its ability to answer the call for a wide variety of driver demands, the 2014 VW Jetta, now available at Speedcraft VW near Providence, RI, gets the nod in this category as well. While not taking anything away from the venerable and dependable 2014 Toyota Corolla, there are a few key areas where the 2014 VW Jetta simply finds itself as the inarguably superior entry in the compact segment. With a vast array of convenience options and a tasteful, refined design, it isn’t any wonder that drivers in Rhode Island continue to respond strongly to the latest edition of Volkswagen’s iconic compact sedan. The 2014 VW Jetta is now available at Speedcraft VW, located near Providence with some of the best offers in Rhode Island. We look forward to answering any further questions you may have, and encourage you to visit our dealership to learn about the many attractive lease and purchase options available for this terrific car.
