One of our favorite towns is Narragansett, which is just a hop, skip, and a jump from us here in Wakefield. Narragansett is home to several restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy good food while watching the ocean waves. There is also plenty of beach land, along with trails for you to explore. Another favorite seaside town of ours is Sakonnet Point (Little Compton), which is on the eastern side of the state. Sakonnet Point boasts plenty of coastline, where you can witness some beautiful sunsets. There are also several vintage and specialty shops for you to check out, along with some local wineries. What are the Best Beaches in Rhode Island? With more than 40 miles of coastline in Rhode Island, you have a lot – and we mean A LOT of beaches to check out! By far, our favorite has to be Watch Hill Beach near Westerly, which features golden sand and gentle waves. It also has one of the oldest carousels in America. Another favorite beach of ours that is also near Westerly is Napatree Point. It is very picturesque and you are more apt to see wildlife because it is considered to be a special habitat area. What is the Best Aquarium/Marine Center in Rhode Island? Speaking of habitats, you can learn about marine wildlife at one of the best aquariums/marine centers in Rhode Island, which is the Exploration Center & Aquarium in Newport. Here, you can get a good look at marine animals like lobsters and seahorses that are native to the Narragansett Bay. There are also touch tanks so you can pet some of the more docile creatures. Memorial Day Weekend 2017 Events and Activities Near Providence, RI Memorial Day is coming up and we are extremely excited to kick off the summer season! With our proximity to the water and the city of Providence, there is plenty to do over Memorial Day weekend if you don’t have any set plans yet. Here are a few suggestions from us: WWII Foundation Presents D-Day: Over Normandy Where: The Vets - Veterans Memorial Auditorium, Avenue of the Arts, Providence When: Saturday, May 27 at 1:00pm Memorial Day is celebrated to remember our fallen heroes. One military event where many of our heroes fell was D-Day at Normandy on June 6, 1944. The Vets - Veterans Memorial Auditorium is hosting the world premiere of the WWII Foundation Presents D-Day: Over Normandy documentary, which features aerial and archival footage of the battle’s most iconic locations. The film is narrated by 5-time Super Bowl-winning coach Bill Belichick, whose father was a WWII Navy veteran who participated in the European and Pacific theatres. This will be your only chance to see this film in New England before it airs on American Public Television. At the conclusion of the film, there will be a Q & A session with the director, producer and two WWII veterans from Rhode Island who participated in the 1st Wave at Omaha Beach. Cost of admission is $15, and is free for veterans and military personnel who produce proper identification. Memorial Day Parade & Celebrations Where: North Providence High School to Governor Notte Park When: Monday, May 29, Parade at 1:00pm, Festivities from 2:00pm to 5:00pm Another way to commemorate Memorial Day and its true meaning is by attending the North Providence Memorial Day Parade & Celebrations. The parade will begin at North Providence High School at 1:00, and will conclude at Governor Notte Park, where a festival will take place. The festival will include food, music, and more. One of our favorite springtime activities—besides driving around in our new Volkswagen with the windows rolled down—is golfing. Rhode Island may be small, but it is home to some really big, beautiful, and challenging golf courses. Here are a few of our favorites near Wakefield, RI: Check Out These Rhode Island Hiking Trails! Rose Hill Golf Club Location: 222 Rose Hill Road, Wakefield Phone: (401) 788-1088 If you are looking for a fun and challenging round of golf, then we recommend checking out the Rose Hill Golf Club. There, you will enjoy 18 holes on a challenging Par 3 terrain level. The grounds are picturesque and teeming with wildlife (mostly birds, though probably not any dancing gophers). Beaver River Golf Club Location: 343 Kingstown Road, Richmond Phone: (401) 539-2100 The Beaver River Golf Club is a public course, which means that it is incredibly affordable. Now just because the Beaver River Golf Club is affordable doesn’t mean that it is easy. This well-maintained course features 18 holes and is classified as a Par 70 green, meaning that it is perfect for everyone from the beginner to the serious enthusiast. In addition to the course, there is a pro shop staffed with friendly and knowledgeable employees who are ready to outfit you in the best gear. For more information, check out their website! Pinecrest Golf Course Location: 25 Pinehurst Drive, Richmond Phone: (401) 364-8600 If you are looking for a quicker-than-normal game, we recommend the Pinecrest Golf Course, which consists of nine holes. Even though the course contains nine holes, it is lauded by patrons for offering some challenges that include tree lines and a pond.
