For the 2018 model year, the Volkswagen lineup will be gaining a new star. Much has already been said about the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas, but new information about the crossover has just been revealed. This include the answer to the all-important questions: “What are the engine options on the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas?
2018 Volkswagen Atlas Engine Performance
Two total engines will be offered on the 2018 Atlas. Base models will come equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged and direct-injection TSI four-cylinder engine. Performance numbers on this engine are rated at 238 horsepower. Fuel economy estimates on the engine are not yet available.

Drivers searching for a bit more power will be drawn to the second engine offered on the 2018 Atlas. Higher trim Atlas trim levels can be equipped with a 3.6-liter VR6 engine that increases the horsepower rating to 280. Fuel economy ratings on the larger engine also have yet to be announced. EPA fuel economy estimates for both engines will be released closer to the launch of the Atlas in Spring of 2017.
Both engine options will be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission designed to maximize efficiency and performance. When equipped with the V-6 engine, the Atlas can also utilize Volkswagen’s available 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.
The 4Motion system brings a special Driving Mode Selection feature with it. This feature allows drivers to modify the settings of the all-wheel-drive system based on road and terrain conditions.
