2024 MotorWeek Drivers’ Choice Award for Best EV

In an exciting announcement from Volkswagen of America, Inc., the innovative and all-electric compact SUV, the ID.4, has been honored with the prestigious 2024 MotorWeek Drivers’ Choice award for Best Electric Vehicle (EV). This remarkable achievement marks the second time the ID.4 has been recognized with a Driver’s Choice award, having previously been celebrated in the 2022 awards.

John Davis, the creator and host of MotorWeek, praised the ID.4 for its continuous improvement and contribution to Volkswagen’s electric vehicle lineup. “The ID.4 began VW’s electric venture with a bang in 2021 and has since only gotten better,” Davis remarked. He highlighted the 2023 model year improvements, including enhanced standard technology and superior interior materials, alongside a more accessible price point. Davis encouraged the promotion of the ID.4 to those lamenting the scarcity of affordable, cutting-edge electric vehicles, naming it MotorWeek’s Best EV of the Year.

Petar Danilovic, Senior Vice President of Product Marketing and Strategy at Volkswagen of America, Inc., expressed pride in the recognition, viewing it as an affirmation of Volkswagen’s vision for an electrified future. “The success of the ID.4, not just as an award-winning EV but also as the fifth-best-selling EV in the U.S. last year, lays a solid foundation as we prepare to expand our EV offerings with two new models in the U.S.,” Danilovic stated.

The MotorWeek editorial team carefully chooses the winners of the annual Drivers’ Choice Awards, evaluating over 150 vehicles for their driving performance, technology, practicality, fuel efficiency, and value. The ID.4 stood out among its competitors for embodying these qualities.

The ID.4 represents Volkswagen’s pioneering step towards a fully electric lineup, constructed on the MEB electric vehicle architecture. This foundational design integrates the advantages of dedicated EV construction with the performance, packaging, and value that have been Volkswagen’s hallmarks for generations.

For the 2023 year, the ID.4 is available with an option between two battery sizes and powertrains. The standard model boasts a 62kWh battery with an EPA-estimated range of 209 miles, starting at an MSRP of $38,995. Meanwhile, the ID.4 Pro model continues with an 82 kWh battery, enabling an impressive EPA-estimated range of 275 miles. The vehicle’s drive is powered by a single permanent magnet synchronous motor, offering 201 horsepower, with the AWD Pro models adding an additional motor for a total of 295 horsepower and all-wheel-drive capability.

Proudly assembled in Chattanooga, Tennessee, both the 2023 and the upcoming 2024 ID.4 models qualify for the full Federal Tax Credit of up to $7,500, thanks to their SK On battery components. Remarkably, Volkswagen stands as the sole foreign automaker eligible for the full Federal Tax credit for a battery electric vehicle, attributing to local assembly and sourcing policies.

This latest accolade for the ID.4 reinforces Volkswagen’s commitment to leading the auto industry into an electric future, promising innovation and environmental stewardship for years to come.
