VW Vans Coming Back to the United States?

Do you think the return of the VW Microbus (Hippie Van) is long overdue? Would you be interested in a new VW Pickup Truck? Both might be in our future.

VW cruised onto the scene here in America with its one-of-a-kind Microbus. And now Volkswagen is thinking about introducing a line of vans and pickups here in the United States. Eckhard Scholz, head of the light commercial vehicles unit for Volkswagen, expressed interest in the U.S. market just last week. Are VW Vans Coming Back to the United States?

“Pickup trucks are a dominating segment,” while there’s also a trend in the U.S. toward compact European vans, Scholz said. “We’re looking at both options intensively.”

Truthfully, VW has been toying with introducing a pickup to the U.S. market for a few years now. The Volkswagen Amarok is the midsize pickup that is seeing unbelievable success in South America, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Russia, and much of Europe. As of now, Canadian and U.S. dealerships do not have access to the popular pickup, but all of that might change in the near future.

If vans and pickups from Volkswagen are going to be successful here, Volkswagen will have to continue to pull American consumers into the current century by educating the market about the endless list of benefits to diesel.

As we showed you right here on the blog, diesel engines are still in the midst of a long-running public relations campaign. And if a diesel pickup or van are going to take hold in this market, there’s still some work to be done in educating the public. For some reason, only the United States market still sees diesel engines as the old technology that existed in the 1980s. It goes without saying that diesel engines have come a long way in the last 30 years, yet Americans struggle with abandoning misconceptions when compared to other nations.

The Volkswagen Type 2 Microbus/camper van, pictured above, was still in production in some markets right up until December of 2013. Around the world it is still called the ‘microbus’ and here in the United States the older models still represent the counterculture movement of the 1960s. The microbus is affectionately known as the “Hippie Van” by a lot of people throughout the country. The cult following of the VW Microbus has never diminished over the years. Subsequently, a fairly large cross section of the U.S. market still believes that a more efficient, up-to-date model that maintains the overall appearance of the original generation would do well in the United States.

In many ways, bringing back the VW Van/Microbus wouldn’t be that unlike the resurgence of the new VW Beetle. The Beetle still enjoys unbelievable popularity as one of the most recognizable vehicles in history. It’s more efficient, more safe, and modern, but it still looks like a Beetle. The same could hold true for the microbus. In fact, when VW launched the New Beetle the company also began planning for a similar release of the Hippie Van, but plans were scrapped in favor of more cost-effective designs that have yet to make their American debuts.

What do you think? Would you be interested in a new and improved VW Microbus or an updated, modern, efficient but durable VW Pickup Truck? Volkswagen currently plans to invest $7 Billion into North American operations, so it’s a fairly safe bet that if they started to produce a new consumer-focused microbus, or a commercial pickup or transport van, they would all be built right here in the U.S.

Where Is the VW Atlas Cross Sport Made?

When you see the sleek lines of a Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport cruising down the highway, you likely think of German engineering. Volkswagen is, after all, a historic German brand. However, for drivers in North America, this popular SUV has a much closer home. If you are wondering where the VW Atlas Cross Sport is made, the answer is Chattanooga, Tennessee. Since its debut, the Atlas Cross Sport has been assembled at the Volkswagen Chattanooga Assembly Plant. This state-of-the-art facility is a hub of automotive innovation, combining Volkswagen’s rigorous design standards with American manufacturing craftsmanship. A Product of Chattanooga, Tennessee The Chattanooga Assembly Plant is a large facility that produces the Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport. It is the first and only dedicated Volkswagen vehicle assembly plant in the United States. Manufacturing these vehicles in Tennessee ensures the SUVs are tailored to the needs of the North American market. The facility employs thousands of American workers and utilizes advanced robotics and sustainable manufacturing practices. When you purchase an Atlas Cross Sport, you aren't just getting a vehicle with European heritage; you are supporting American manufacturing jobs. This "German Engineering, American Style" approach enables faster delivery to dealerships and a product fine-tuned for American roads. Distinctive Design The most immediate difference is the roofline. The Cross Sport features a raked roof that gives it an aggressive, athletic stance. It looks modern and stylish, standing out in a crowded field of boxy SUVs. Despite the sloped roof, the rear seat legroom remains generous, providing ample space for adult passengers. Advanced Technology Modern drivers expect connectivity, and the Atlas Cross Sport delivers. Most trims come equipped with the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro, a high-resolution configurable instrument cluster. You also get access to IQ.DRIVE, a suite of safety features that includes Travel Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Active Blind Spot Monitor to keep you safer on the road. Capable Performance Under the hood, you generally find a potent turbocharged engine that balances power with efficiency. When paired with 4MOTION® all-wheel drive, the Atlas Cross Sport handles rain, snow, and rough terrain with confidence. It offers the towing capacity and power you need for weekend adventures, whether you are heading to the coast or the mountains. VW Taos Oil Change

VW Taos Oil Change

The Volkswagen Taos has quickly become a favorite for Rhode Island drivers. It offers the perfect blend of compact agility for Providence streets and rugged capability for coastal adventures in Wakefield and beyond. But like any precision-engineered machine, your Taos requires regular maintenance to keep performing at its peak. Ignoring your oil light isn't just a minor oversight; it can lead to decreased fuel efficiency and, eventually, significant engine repairs. Whether you are commuting down I-95 or heading to the beach in South Kingstown, ensuring your engine is properly lubricated is the single best way to protect your investment. Here is everything you need to know about getting a VW Taos oil change at Speedcraft Volkswagen. The Importance of Regular Maintenance Your VW Taos is equipped with a sophisticated engine designed to deliver power while maintaining excellent fuel economy. Oil plays a critical role in this performance by lubricating moving parts, reducing friction, and helping to regulate engine temperature. Over time, oil breaks down and collects contaminants. If you wait too long between changes, that oil turns into sludge, forcing your engine to work harder. By sticking to the factory-recommended maintenance schedule, you ensure your vehicle remains reliable, efficient, and fun to drive for years to come. Why Choose Speedcraft VW? When it comes to servicing your vehicle, you have plenty of options, from quick-lube chains to independent mechanics. However, bringing your Taos to Speedcraft Volkswagen offers distinct advantages that general repair shops cannot match. Rhode Island Owned and Operated We are proud to be a locally owned and operated dealership serving Warwick, Coventry, and the surrounding areas. We understand the specific driving conditions in Rhode Island—from humid summers to salt-covered winter roads—and we know exactly how to care for your vehicle in this climate. Certified Volkswagen Technicians Our service center is staffed by technicians who are specifically trained to work on Volkswagen models. They know the Taos inside and out. Unlike a general mechanic who works on thirty different brands a day, our team has the specialized tools and diagnostic equipment required to service your specific vehicle correctly the first time. The Speedcraft Service Process We strive to make your oil change as effortless as possible. When you visit our service center in Wakefield, here is what you can expect: Check-In: Our friendly service advisors will greet you and confirm the services your Taos needs. Drain and Replace: We completely drain the old, degraded oil and remove the old filter. Genuine Parts: We replace the filter with an OEM Volkswagen oil filter and fill the engine with high-quality synthetic oil that meets VW's strict viscosity standards. Multi-Point Inspection: While your car is on the lift, we don't just change the oil. We perform a complimentary visual inspection of your tires, brakes, fluid levels, and belts to catch any potential issues before they become expensive problems. The Benefit of Genuine VW Parts One of the biggest risks of going to a generic lube shop is the quality of the parts used. Aftermarket filters may not fit perfectly or filter out contaminants as effectively as the original equipment. At Speedcraft VW, we use Genuine VW Oil and Filters. These components are engineered to fit your Taos engine perfectly. Using genuine parts maintains your vehicle’s integrity and ensures you remain compliant with your warranty terms. Schedule Your VW Taos Oil Change Today Don't wait until your dashboard warning light turns on. Protect your engine and maintain your vehicle's value with a professional oil change at Speedcraft Volkswagen. We make it easy to book your appointment online, so you can find a time that fits your busy schedule.
