Memorial Day Weekend 2017 Events and Activities Near Providence, RI

Memorial Day is coming up and we are extremely excited to kick off the summer season! With our proximity to the water and the city of Providence, there is plenty to do over Memorial Day weekend if you don’t have any set plans yet. Here are a few suggestions from us:

WWII Foundation Presents D-Day: Over Normandy

Where: The Vets - Veterans Memorial Auditorium, Avenue of the Arts, ProvidenceWhen: Saturday, May 27 at 1:00pm Memorial Day is celebrated to remember our fallen heroes. One military event where many of our heroes fell was D-Day at Normandy on June 6, 1944. The Vets - Veterans Memorial Auditorium is hosting the world premiere of the WWII Foundation Presents D-Day: Over Normandy documentary, which features aerial and archival footage of the battle’s most iconic locations. The film is narrated by 5-time Super Bowl-winning coach Bill Belichick, whose father was a WWII Navy veteran who participated in the European and Pacific theatres. This will be your only chance to see this film in New England before it airs on American Public Television. At the conclusion of the film, there will be a Q & A session with the director, producer and two WWII veterans from Rhode Island who participated in the 1st Wave at Omaha Beach. Cost of admission is $15, and is free for veterans and military personnel who produce proper identification.

Memorial Day Parade & Celebrations

Where: North Providence High School to Governor Notte ParkWhen: Monday, May 29, Parade at 1:00pm, Festivities from 2:00pm to 5:00pm Another way to commemorate Memorial Day and its true meaning is by attending the North Providence Memorial Day Parade & Celebrations. The parade will begin at North Providence High School at 1:00, and will conclude at Governor Notte Park, where a festival will take place. The festival will include food, music, and more. 6th Annual Antique Car & Antique Show

Where: Cory Farms Past & Presents, 3124 East Main Road, PortsmouthWhen: Saturday, May 27 from 10:00am to 5:30pm If you are a fan of all things from yesteryear, this is the event for you! Cory Farms Past & Presents is hosting its 6th Annual Antique Car & Antique Show, and they are looking forward to seeing you! The event will consist of a car show (where you might even get to see some vintage VW models), along with three barns packed with antiques. Cory Farms Past & Presents store offers antiques originating from the United States and abroad, along with handmade items made by local artisans. If it is rainy, the event will be rescheduled for June 3. Keep an eye on the Cory Farms Past & Presents Facebook page for the latest information.
